Stewart’s Shops Corp Recalls Cranberry Apple Refresher Due to Undeclared Allergen
Stewarts Shops Corp of Saratoga Springs, New York issued a recall on October 17, 2018 for their approximately 2,300 units of Cranberry Apple Refresher due to the undeclared allergen, milk. Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk risk serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if the product is consumed.
The recall was initiated after routine quality control testing indicated the presence of milk allergens. Affected product is packaged in 16 oz bottles and distributed in upstate New York and Southern Vermont. See table below for specific product information. Recall is limited to expiration code date Nov 19. No other products are affected by this recall.
No illness has been reported in connection with this recall. Consumers are urged to return the product to their local Stewart’s Shop for a full refund.
Cedar’s Mediterranean Foods Recalls Chickpea Salad Due to Undeclared Allergen
Cedar’s Mediterranean Foods of Ward Hill, Massachusetts issued a recall on October 17, 2018 for their Chickpea Salad due to the undeclared allergen, soy. Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy risk serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if the product is consumed.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that labels were misprinted, omitting the ingredient edamame and without the allergy statement. Affected product was distributed to retailers in Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Iowa Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Wisconsin. No illness has been reported in connection to this recall. Consumers who are not allergic to soy may safely consume the product. Consumers who are allergic to soy should not consume the product. New Nan Fong Hong Trading Inc Recalls Source Day Natural Treasures Dried Liquorice Slice Due to Undeclared Allergen
New Nan Fong Hong Trading Inc issued a recall on October 17, 2018 due to the undeclared allergen, sulfites. Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites risk serious or life-threatening reaction if product is consumed.
The recall was initiated after routine sampling conducted by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and New York State Food Laboratory detected the presence of sulfite allergens in Source Day Natural Treasures Dried Liquorice Slice and presence of the allergen was not indicated on the label.
The product can be identified as coming in a 16 oz package without an expiration date or UPC code. It is a product of China. Consumers who purchased the affected product are urged to not consume it and to return to the place of purchase for a full refund.
East Trading Corp Recalls Fruits Du Sud Golden Seedless Raisins Due to Undeclared Allergen
East Trading Corp of Bronx, New York issued a recall on October 17, 2018 for their Fruits Du Golden Seedless Raisins due to the undeclared allergen, sulfites. Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites risk serious of life-threatening allergic reaction if the product is consumed.
The recall was initiated after routine sampling conducted by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and New York State Food Laboratory detected the presence of sulfite allergens in the raisins, a product of South Africa.
Affected product was distributed to New York and New Jersey areas through retail stores. See table below for specific product information.

Working Cow Homemade, Inc Recalls Ice Cream Due to Potential Health Risk
Working Cow Homemade, Inc of Petersburg, Florida expanded their existing voluntary recall on October 18, 2018 to include additional manufacture dates due to the potential health risk, Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that causes serious illness in normally healthy individuals, though the very young, the very old, and those with a compromised immune system are at risk for more serious illness. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may experience miscarriage and still birth.
The recall is extended to include manufacture dates from August 29, 2017 to October 11, 2018 due to environmental samples taken from the facilities. No additional illness has been reported beyond the one consumer case related to the NSA Chocolate/NSA Vanilla product. No ice cream is being produced while an investigation is taking place and until the company makes changes to their manufacturing and distribution operations.
Affected product can be identified as being packaged in plastic three-gallon tubs. The manufacture date is indicated as a “born-on” date. See table below for specific product information.

Hy-Vee, Inc Recalls Meat and Potato Products Due to Potential Health Risk
Hy-Vee Inc, of West Des Moines, Iowa issued a recall on October 18, 2018 for six of their meat and potato products due to the potential contamination with the health risk Salmonella and Listeria.
Salmonella is a harmful bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in the very young, the very old, and those with a compromised immune system. Normally healthy individual often experience fever, sometimes bloody diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Additional rare complications may occur if the bacteria leave the digestive tract and enter the bloodstream where they can access other parts of the body. Arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis may occur.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that causes serious illness in normally healthy individuals, though the very young, the very old, and those with a compromised immune system are at risk for more serious illness. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may experience miscarriage and still birth.
The recall was initiated after a supplier, McCain Foods, indicated a recall for their caramelized mushrooms and fire roasted tomatoes. Hy-Vee is recalling all products made with those ingredients. See table below for specific product information.

New Seasons Market Recalls Hot & Sour Broth Due to Undeclared Allergen
New Seasons Market of issued a recall on October 22, 2018 of their Hot & Sour Broth due to the undeclared allergen, soy. Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy risk serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if product is consumed.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the product containing Tamari sauce (made from soy beans) did not reveal the presence of soy. The product was distributed to all New Seasons Market stores in Oregon and Washington from 10/8/18 to 10/20/18. See table below for specific product information.
No illness has been reported in connection with this recall. New Seasons is urging customers who are allergic to soy to discard the recall broth or return for a full refund. No receipt is necessary.
Sirob Imports, Inc Recalls Curry Powder Due to Health Risk
Sirob Imports, Inc of Lindenhurst, New York issued a recall on October 24, 2018 for their Corrado, Orlando Imports, Nouri’s Syrian Bakery, Mediterranean Specialty Foods Brand, and Butera Fruit Market Curry Powder due to elevated levels of lead.
Lead is a toxic substance that can result in lead poisoning. While lead affects nearly every bodily system, effects depend on many factors such as age, amount of exposure, and duration of exposure. Symptoms include abdominal pain, vomiting, lethargy, irritability, weakness, behavior or mood changes, delirium, seizures, and coma. Infants, young children, and the developing fetus can be affected by chronic exposure. While the young may not look or act sick, lead poisoning in children can cause learning disabilities, developmental delays, and lower IQ scores.
The recall was initiated after FDA sampling revealed elevated lead levels in the product. Product sampling was conducted after a consumer complaint of elevated blood lead levels in a child. While the recalled product has not been definitively linked to this case, the investigation is ongoing.
Affected product was distributed to Illinois, New Jersey, and New York. Product is packaged in 8 oz and 16 oz plastic containers under several brand names. Affected products contain the following lot numbers: GER302181, GER405081, GER403281, GER306181, GER104281, GER209081, GER301281, GER403281, GER505181, GER406181, GER504181, GER108081, GER106281, GER205181, GER309281, GER503281, GER306181, GER503081, GER302181. Shirley’s Cookie Company Recalls Chocolate Whoopie Pies Due to Undeclared Allergen
Shirley’s Cookie Company, Inc issued a recall on October 24, 2018 for 55 cases/660 units of their 16-ounce packaged of Chocolate Whoopie Pie due to the undeclared allergen, peanuts. Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts risk serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if product is consumed.
The recall was initiated after discovering that peanut-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of peanuts. Investigation indicated the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging process.
Affected product was distributed to Weis Markets Headquarters on September 14, 2018. See table below for specific product information.

UBC Distributors Inc, Recalls Curry Powder Due to Health Risk
UBC Distributors Inc issued a recall on October 25, 2018 for their Hot Curry Powder and Baraka Curry Powder due to elevated levels of lead.

The recall was initiated by UBC Food Distributors, Inc after high levels of lead were discovered during testing performed by the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development. The company indicates the product was purchased from an importer.
Less than 20 cases were shipped between June 15, 2018 and July 31,2018 to the states of Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, and Ohio. Consumers are urged to discontinue use of the product and return any unused portions to the place of purchase.
